Ive got a couple of customers using these cameras. Both are having serious reliability issues. The cameras are Novus 150T, they look and feel like a good quality product and they are not cheap to buy! Problem is no one looks at the footage on the SD card until there is an incident. Its only then you see that the camera has stopped recording some while back. Both are large-ish fleets and the failure rate is worrying. They were originally supplied by Daltec, who have offered no reason or explanation as to why they are failing other than to suggest we format the memory cards once a month. Ive explained this is not practical for a large fleet of vehicles. I cant contact the manufacturer as the novusauto.com website has been down for some while. Replaced SD cards with high grade industrial ones at some cost but still the same issues.  Daltec are still selling these devices...
Has anyone any info on a firmware/software upgrade that might cure this problem?
Can anyone vouch for a low cost forward facing HD cam that is known to be reliable? ie you've knowledge of it working for say 2 years?
Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The formatting issues seems to the be a recurring problem on a few different forward facing cameras unfortunately. I know it's not ideal on big fleets but I try to encourage my customers to reformat there cards on their 6 week checks.
I'm currently using virtus fleet cameras also supplied by daltec. They are self formatting and I've had no problems with them. I've had one on my van for 1½ years (titan 2 forward and rear facing) and 80+ out with customers no complaints. They aren't the cheapest but definitely the most reliable so far.

I had this with the novus as well, so stopped using them

The technology is old and isn’t format free or self formatting so the card get corrupt, as the cards have to record read and erase all at once,  they get corrupt unless you format them monthly or even weekly

I had a big scream up at Daltec as it ain’t good enough

The last lot of novus I did I advised the customer about formatting monthly and got them to sign a document stating what to do that I advised them, they wasn’t happy as they had 20 but I advised them prior to installing by them so they were warned

I now use the virtus ones as they speak to you if there is a problem and are format free

Also I think the type of cards made a difference, I make sure I use decent cards bought from Mymemory, 64GB class 10, 95mbps speed

I know this is an older thread but the incident cam doesn't use SD cards for this reason and because they are not very secure.
It's available through many companies such as Matrix,  Plant-i, Suretrack and others.

Was hoping someone might know of a firmware update for these but i see now its just old technology.
Can anyone recommend any lower priced HD cameras, I will need to replace quite a few at some stage. Nothing fancy, dont need a screen as drivers mess about,  just need to be reliable.
thanks

I’m having the same issues as above on a fleet of 15 minicabs.

Various issues with the cameras, and promises by the supplier that they will replace the cameras no problem, but now it’s come down to actually doing it they’ve changed their tune.

I’ve now got to refund the customer a lot of money and are basically being ignored by Daltec to try and get any resolution!!......absolute shower of shit

Daltec shafted me once, only once because they never got a second chance, never used them again, they lost my business that day, and I purchased everything thru them. Haven't used them for 10 years or so, I still get the odd phone call when their touting for business.

So Daltec know all about the issues with these cameras. So why are they are still selling them!
Anyone recommend a reasonable price alternative?

Hi everyone, still looking for a solution for this...Need some feedback on whats a good reliable self formatting camera at a sensible price. Ideally one thats proved its worked by recording an accident/incident and is still in operation to this day. I have a couple of new orders for fleets and one fleet to replace so need to get it right...
thanks

The titan1 from daltec is reliable, self formatting and it's nice and simple to view the footage. Buy the SD card off Amazon though they are a lot cheaper for the same card.
